Bringing the MAN home

And there it was, the day we had so been waiting for: the day we could bring our new home home!

A lot had to be sorted out and arranged beforehand. Finding out the proper way of bringing a truck on German military plates to the Netherlands wasn’t quite that easy. We found out this is a rare occasion, because everywhere we went we got a different answer.

The second challenge was the actual driving. We both don’t have our truck drivers licence yet. Both of us are not yet allowed to actually drive the MAN we just bought 😉

Luckily a lot of people were eager to help. Which made it possible to be on our way today to pick up our beautiful MAN truck, our soon to be home.

So once again we set off to Germany, and there she was, waiting for us to take her home. And despite of battery problems, started without any hesitations. We knew that if we were to turn off the engine during our trip, we might have difficulty starting her up again.

And after some last instructions from her loving former owner…

Jan Piet (who ís allowed to drive a truck 😋) could take his place behind the wheel…

and we could start our journey home!

Shortly after our first gas stop…

and a short drive on the highway, we noticed that the MAN lost power on the engine. So after a stop at a highway rest stop…

we decided to get off the road to find the source of this problem.

The fuel filter turned out to be full of dirt. So we turned off the engine…

and solved the problem (with a lot of impressive McGuyver skills from Niels and Jan Piet 💪).

Unfortunately the battery of the truck did refuse as we had feared and we weren’t able to get the motor running again. Fortunately the German ADAC came to the rescue, and we were soon on our way again…

smoothly driving us all the way to the Netherlands!

Where she got some temporary Dutch plates…

for the last part of our journey…

home!

To be able to enjoy the sight of our lovely MAN truck on our own driveway.

Happy us!!!

Where the next part of our adventure awaits… transforming this amazing truck into our home.

Till the late hours of the night…
To be continued…
